A Year in the 80’s – Fashion Statements

So when I think of 1980’s fashion, a few things come directly to mind. Chief among those are big hair, big earrings, big shoulder pads and Madonna wearing her underwear as clothing.

But really, 10 years is a long time…

80's fashion got around some!

80’s fashion got around some!

…and that bigger is best fad isn’t the only thing that was going on.

Here’s a little retrospective of some of the fashion you may have been sporting if you grew up in the 80’s!

  1. Greatness! I might have looked like some of the people in some of those photos. I was looking at my husband’s high school yearbook a few weeks ago. He grew up in a very small town. Every single girl in his graduating class had permed hair. Every. Single. One!

    • Haha, funny! I had winged hair, feathered hair, permed hair….I did it all but the big poofy bangs. And that was not for lack of trying! My hair is just too fine to do the poofy bangs.

I had some of the style down, but not much really. I have never been very fashionable, haha.

      • Oh, I did the big poofy bangs. I’ve had bangs (except for the present moment!) most of my life. I really miss my bangs, too. Any hair is good hair now, and the bangs will return!

  2. Neon, mini-skirts and colored tights are still being worn! 😀

    • I know! Everything comes and goes over and over. For a long time you only saw colored tights on little girls, but I did notice in a current picture that it was in now. Lots of things don’t really go away either, like mini skirts. But they are way mini now!
