Infinity Reveals Itself

My friend at Atoms of Thought recently said that “infinity reveals itself in all things”.

I was inclined to disagree, or perhaps I simply didn’t understand his meaning.  I thought, “We are surrounded by the finite.” There are brick walls all around us, in every direction we turn.  The vastness of the world may be beyond the scope of our true comprehension, yet it is nonetheless contained.  And everything within and upon it is in some way likewise contained.

Even the limits of our imagination are constrained within the bounds of our own experience.  You can imagine and dream beyond what you have done, seen, read, felt, heard – but only in relation to those experiences.  Imagination can build upon what you already know, but can you really create something out of thin air, without reference of any kind?

Really Valuable Lessons…can really suck

When I was 14, I learned a really valuable lesson.

And it really sucked.

The lesson I learned is that not all of your friends are actually friends.  It took me about a year to figure this out, but I did, and at the same time, I learned that sometimes you just have to cut your losses.  There are some people who you just can’t be friends with, or rather, that you shouldn’t be close friends with.  You shouldn’t work hard to nurture intimate friendships with people who behave in ways that are against to your best interests, with people who damage you.  These are not friends.  I believe. I like to buy things just as much as the next girl, obviously, and I’ve certainly gone in for a little retail shopping therapy now and then.  But, I have another perspective on Retail Therapy.  For me, this idea started when I realized how many of my customers were telling me extremely personal things about themselves.  Why were they doing this?  Is this normal?

What I learned at my sister’s house

Louis and I spent a few days at my sister’s house last week while she and her family were on vacation. Ostensibly, I was there to feed the fish and take care of the boy’s two cats.    But they also have cable, which I don’t have, and unlimited internet.  So that’s nice.  And they’re in town, which cuts my commute in half. Not that it’s important, but they also have a pool.  Of course, none of those things effected my decision to stay.  I was simply there to feed the cats.  Oh…and the fish.  I’m just nice like that. continue reading…
