the Infinite Monkey speaks: on book sniffing
Random brilliance from across the blogosphere…
.
When I was about 12 I finished all the books in the 14+ section (yeah, I was that kid) and had to move on to other bookshops. It was sad.
But I was lucky enough to grow up there – with those books and those shelves – from a six-year-old holding her daddy’s hand to a weird preteen sniffing the books when no one was looking. I was lucky enough to experience the joy of book-hunting, of going in with no idea what you want and finding that hidden gem or that old favourite recalled from a foggy memory.

I was that kid, too! I checked out the max number allowable every visit. Still love to read – what’s on your summer reading list?
I’ve been a little down this summer, and I have sunk into the books as a means of escape this time. I’ve read a couple Agatha Christie’s, re-read a bunch of JD Robb and World War Z, some Michael Crichton, etc. I am on a murder mystery, darker books kick. What about you?
Just finished re-reading Judy Blume’s “Starring Sally J freedman as herself” and “Little giant of Aberdeen county.” Starting “Saving Max”. Love escaping into books – hope things are looking up.
I was that girl, too, especially in the summers. If I wasn’t playing outside or riding my bike, I was lost in a book in my bedroom.
My mom had to make me read to her when I was first starting out, or I wouldn’t have done it at all. But then I got hooked and that was it – Book Lover!! I like book on audio too, but there is just something about reading – sinking into a book and having all the voices in your head and I just don’t know what, but it’s like magic.
