the Infinite Monkey speaks: on choosing

Random brilliance from across the blogosphere…

.

We have to deliberately live a life of gratitude, in the same way that we choose to be happy.  It is about opening our hearts and minds to look out for and appreciate the good things that happen to us every day, even on the days that are stormy.

One of the reasons I continue to maintain this blog is because it forces me to intentionally look at my everyday life.  And to be thankful for all the tiny pieces that make up its existence – the happy, the sad, the sweet, the salty and even the utterly mundane.  Nobody said it’s easy but if you want to embrace life, you’ve just gotta savour, relish and celebrate every single minute of it.

  1. You’ve nailed it. Fears have been on my mind the past couple of days…I’ve noticed that even the most successful people harbor fears just under the surface. I’ve concluded that, this being so, we owe it to ourselves and each other to be as positive as we can every day. Yeah, I’ll tell myself, the car is iffy, the bank balance isn’t what I might wish, etc., but the people I encounter still need a smile and a cheerful word. In this way we can buoy each other up and keep making it down the road. I’m so glad you keep doing what you do!

    • It’s interesting that you mention being cheerful and buoying each other up, as happysherlock’s post was about how her friend had sent her a gratitude ring (which was very lovely, by the way). It was much appreciated by her.

I also love how you say, “we owe it to ourselves and each other.” I believe that’s true – we are valuable and we do owe it to ourselves to try and be positive – to focus on the positive if possible. It is letting ourselves down if we allow ourselves to go to the negative and poison our life that way. We deserve better. But fear is a big one. It plays a part in not only the stinking thinking, but the fear of failure (and sometimes of what comes with success) keeps us from taking those steps that would bring us to our happiness.

  2. Melissa, sounds like a great blog post in the making, about harboring fears . . . Can’t wait to read about it!

“We have to deliberately live a life of gratitude . . .” Words of wisdom, and it’s nice to see that blogging enables happysherlock to examine each day to make that happen.

    • I know, I would love to read that, too.

I’ve really enjoyed following happysherlock! She’s pretty terrific.
