I actually like this song

I’m sick, y’all.  And not in a good way.  I’m sick in a sinus infection, coughing a lung up, can’t hardly stand it anymore kind of way.

I got sick at the tail end of vacation, which sucks, but at least I had a few days left to rest.  So, I spent 2 days laying on the couch with my dog, watching movies and sleeping and reading and sleeping.  Then back to work, but still sick, so it’s basically working and sleeping.  This is the first time I’ve even opened my computer since last Friday morning, 6 days ago – and to be honest, I made myself do it.  What I really want is to lay down again.  I mean, I’ve been up a full 3 hours already!  Enough is enough.

But I decided to pop in and do something I’ve never done before, which is post a video link that’s not mine.  Just because I like it.

What I was reading those first days was Entertainment Weekly (I have a big unread stack of them, which is why I’m not allowed to subscribe to magazines).  I was working my way backward and finally got to one about Amy Winehouse’s death.  I hadn’t heard her voice before, that I knew of, and to be honest, I just always assumed that I wouldn’t like her music.  But I was curious, so I started looking the songs up on my phone.  Mostly I was right.  Her voice is good, but…just not my kind of music.

Except this one:

I just love this song!  I can’t get enough of it.

It’s a shame about Amy Winehouse.  I may not particularly like any of the other music I heard, and I went through a lot of YouTube video trying to find more songs I would like.  But she clearly had a talent.

It’s just a shame, the things we do to ourselves.  I may not have a drug problem, but I do plenty of other detrimental things.  Even just through negligence.

  1. Amy Winehouse was a talent, but of course we all like different things. I was never a big Elton John fan but there’s no doubt at all about his ability.

Good on you for giving Amy a listen – many people would turnt heir back without even doing her that favour.

Take care of yourself and get better soon!

    • Mostly I’m just curious. I love my android, because now I can look things up immediately. Then I loved the sound of this song so much that I tried and tried to find others of hers to like. There were some good covers, but they lacked something I found in this original material.

That’s funny about Elton John- you made me think about that a minute. I’ve never really thought of myself as a fan of his; I basically don’t care about him one way or the other. But I love his music! 80’s and especially the older stuff. Weird.

Thanks for the good wishes. I’m resting right now and watching Under Seige. I just love that movie. But I always feel like watching The Fugitive right afterwards.

  2. I’m glad you are feeling better! Amy Winehouse’s voice does not look like it should have come out of her body. I can appreciate her more when I am not watching her! It’s too distracting otherwise.

    • Thank you. I started medicine today, so hopefully not much longer.

I thought the same thing about her voice – just doesn’t fit. I was more distracted by the hair, though. In older pictures, she looked so cute and just…innocent. I found myself wondering where that young woman went. And I was sad for the loss of her.

On a different note, I thought her beehive was just plain silly-looking. And yet, I got used to it and then it just seemed normal. Normal for her, not normal if I saw it on the street.

  3. So sorry you are sick, sweet girl. Be well soon.

    • Thank you, Patricia, you are very kind.

I’ll be satisfied (well, almost) when I no longer have to sleep sitting up. I can’t get comfortable. But lying down brings on terrible coughing fits. Either way, I’ve gotten little sleep these last few nights.

And I miss my blogger friends. It’s not the same, done all on my phone.

  4. I was wondering what happened to you! Sinus infections suck. We finally got some cooler temps down her (YEAH!) but it’s been stirring up a lot of pollen. Plus, there’s some smoke from all the wildfires, which means my asthma’s been pretty bad. I’ve been taking it easy myself. Hope you feel better soon!

    • Thank you, I’m thinking it’s on the decline now.

I’ve been keeping up with my reading. I just read about when you missed your honey and the dogs by a hair, and I was thinking how that kind of thing happens sometimes. But it’s so awful and the not knowing what’s going to happen makes it kind of scary. I haven’t commented very much because it’s harder and just not the same on my phone.

I’m glad the temps have come down some for you guys! We’ve had three straight days of rain and thunderstorms. Hopefully the rain will come for y’all soon.

  5. Hope you are feeling better soon!

And thanks for showing casing Winehouse. I, too, had not heard her stuff and wondered about her work but did not take the step to explore and download. This one you shared is hauntingly .

    • Thank you! It was a long day at work, but at least I could talk okay.

That song definitely lingers in your brain. It does have a haunting quality. I’m glad you liked it, too. Or if not liked, appreciated 🙂
