Disney Vacation

I can hardly believe that exactly one month ago, I was in the middle of a Disney Vacation.  Time flies when you’re…old.

Thankfully, you’re never too old for Disney World.

I’ve been wanting to write about it, because it was such a fabulous time, but I got sick just before we came home.  And then I kept being sick and not doing much by way of writing, then time slipped by faster and faster.  Now, I’m faced with another problem about getting older: although my enthusiasm for the subject is just as bright and shiny, my memories are not.  They are becoming rather fuzzy, in fact, on the finer details.  But I did take a ton of pictures, so I’m going to share a few of those with you.  You can pretend this is the seventies and you’re sitting on my couch watching vacation slides.  Aren’t you the lucky ones? continue reading…

My Totally Inconsequential Earthquake Experience

For those of you who are used to earthquakes, you’ll just have to bear with me.  I live in Virginia and we’re simply not accustomed to that kind of thing.  I was in my thirties before I experienced my first quake, a lowly 3.1 or something.  And that was soon enough for me.  That measly little three-pointer would have lasted me a lifetime.  Think 100 by 100.  An interesting thing to experience, but I was in no hurry for it. continue reading…

I’m with the Band!

I love the nightlife.  I like to boogie.

Okay, not really.  But if I did, I figured I’d be out of luck in Fredericksburg.  I mean, we don’t get a lot of action around here.  This isn’t New York City, after all; we roll up our streets at 10pm.  But it used to be eight, so there’s progress for ya.

Wasn’t I just reminiscing and mooning over the lost simplicity of my little old home town?  Wasn’t I just waxing nostalgic for the way it was?  Some people are just never satisfied.

Sure we have ten times more restaurants and shopping centers than we did when I was a kid.    But I perceive our growth as sprawl: getting ever wider, without moving up.  Despite all the development, it’s still so…mundane.  Where’s the vibrancy?  Where’s the fun?  *sigh*  This town is so boring.
