Recovering People Pleaser, Rob Shepherd

Rob Shepherd is one of those names I’ve seen around almost since the moment I started blogging. I’d read many of his posts over those years, but didn’t know very much about him. Then guest Ricky Anderson suggested I talk to Rob, saying what a great guy he was and how he wasn’t afraid of anything.

I found out Rob actually is afraid of some things, after all. We talk about that, the balancing act between husband, father and pastor, and his first book, about fighting his people-pleasing addiction.

Loving people is sometimes hard work. Because they don’t always look like us, they don’t always act like we want them to act…they aren’t always nice to us. Sometimes the people that we are called to love are actually our enemies. That’s what Jesus has called us to do as his people. So loving people is hard, but we know that that’s the standard. That’s the foundation for everything that we do as followers of Jesus.

A new day means another chance. Another chance to take the next right step. If I’m being honest, I’ve lived too much of life focusing on the problems at hand, too scared or too full of self-pity to simply do the next right thing. Dreams aren’t realized in a day.
