I agree! I have long believed that “perception is reality”. Not that that is literally true, because three people can view the exact same situation in three different ways. But in the sense that, for each of those people, their own perceptions are what they accept as reality.
I think that’s why understanding how to communicate effectively is so important – and why it’s so hard for us to master. We are so wrapped up in our own realities – our own perceptions of the world that we take to be absolute truth. So instead of trying to find out what the other person is really saying, we assume we know what they mean. We take it for granted that they see things the same way we do.
I really believe this is true. Our perceptions of the world around us can create our reality, even if someone else sees things entirely dofferently.
