Thankful in January 2014
Tuesday, 1/21: We got snow today, but I was off work, so there’s one thing I’m thankful for! But as I was going to sleep I was thinking about how fortunate I am to have a home. I have a warm and dry and secure place to live. I’m very grateful for that.
Wednesday, 1/22: The roads were still bad when I went to work this morning, but with schools canceled and businesses opening late, the roads were pretty empty. My car slid completely sideways once, but I was on a wide road and there were no other cars near me, so I didn’t have to be afraid of an accident or going into a ditch or anything. So, I’m super thankful for that! And it was a little fun since there was no real danger. On the way to work, my windshield suddenly cracked, from one side all the way to the other. It was super loud and scary. But when I called my insurance company, they said I have no glass deductible. Thankful!! In a big way thankful!
Thursday, 1/23: Today I am thankful for my friends, who talked with me and reassured me after I posted a woe-is-me kind of FB status. Which I try not to normally do. I’m thankful for my new rice cooker/steamer, because it worked awesome today!! I’m thankful to have lots of tea in the fridge, no more soda this week! And I’ve been missing my tea. I’m thankful that I did my cooking today, and I cleaned as I went along so I wouldn’t have anything to deal with later. Nothing to hinder me from doing the next cooking day. I’m thankful for Louis. He’s such a sweet little doggie. I’m thankful for days like this, when I am productive on my day off and feel tired and accomplished at the end of it. And I still spent time watching Kid Snippets on YouTube. 🙂
Saturday, 1/25: Today I was grumpy about going to work. However, I was thankful to have gotten a lot of blog and podcast work done before I had to work. And I was thankful to get home tonight! It ain’t much, but it’s something.
Monday, 1/27: The weather was gorgeous today, well, for winter. It got up to about 58 degrees and the rest of the snow melted. So I’m thankful for a lovely day to live in. Even though I was at work for all of it, I still enjoyed the couple of times I went outside. And I’m thankful to have a job too! I was super excited and thankful to get a new windshield installed today. The old one, besides the new crack that went all the way from one side to the other, was so dinged up that it was practically opaque when the morning or afternoon sun hit it. It was getting dangerous. But now I have a new and clear and wonderful new windshield! Which cost no co-pay, so more thankfulness for that!
Tuesday, 1/28: I was very thankful to be able to sleep late today. I stayed up sort of late, just after midnight, working on the 80’s lists last night, so I was glad to be able to turn off the alarm and just roll over. I got a later start to work than I’d wanted, but that’s okay. I’m thankful that part of my job allows me to do that!
Wednesday, 1/29: Today I’m truly thankful to feel God working in my life. Pretty much I’ve just finally admitted to him that I can’t do these things I want to do. I don’t have the willpower or the drive or whatever it is that I’m lacking. And even though I am not surprised, it’s still amazing that when I did that, God took up the slack. It’s kind of like he’s said to me, “Girl, you waited a long time, but now you finally get it. So, come on, let’s go.” I don’t know if I can keep up; I’ve never done this before. But I’m thankful to feel God directing me and creating things in me.
Thursday, 1/30: Today I’m thankful for my Life Coach, Lamisha. Yesterday was the first time I’d sent her an update email between our chats, and the email she sent back to me was super encouraging and it made me feel great about my smallish accomplishment. I’m thankful for the people in my life who support and help me. I’m thankful for people who validate and encourage the podcast and this blog. We can’t exist, or can’t exist well, in a vacuum. Thank God I don’t have to fend for myself in this world, and I have people who prop me up from time to time.
Friday, 1/31: Today I came to the river for the weekend. I’m really thankful that I have a three day weekend, for one thing – Yay! But I’m honestly thankful that my parents have a nice place to live, a place they enjoy, with great neighbors and great scenery. I can’t imagine them being retired and still living in their old, dark house. It was not a very motivating kind of place to live. I’m also very thankful that they let me come and visit. 🙂
