Thankful in August 2012
July 29 – August 4:
Ah, vacation euphoria! I actually didn’t have to go back to work until Tuesday, so that was pretty sweet. Honestly, I simply haven’t come down from my vacation high, so things are feeling pretty great this week! Work is good, life is good, all is good. I posted a video this week of working the crab pots with my dad, and I love it. I get a huge grin on my face every time I watch it and it just makes me feel so happy. I’m so thankful for that week at the river. And I’m thankful that I can take pictures and make videos to help me remember it.
August 5 – August 11:
There was a little bit of family discord this week, which of course feels gigantic while it’s happening. I said a lot of prayers for my family this week, and I’m thankful that God gave me the answer that I really wanted. I posted a poem this week that was triggered by this incident. I am so thankful to have my family, and I’m thankful that things turned out relatively okay in the end.
August 12 – August 18:
There are lots of things that I want to write about, but I don’t. Not many – maybe two – of my family members read this blog, and I don’t think any of my “in-person” friends read it, but I still wouldn’t want to hurt anyone. I don’t even want to hurt strangers. So, I keep my mouth shut sometimes, even when I feel a terrible need to explore a topic, or maybe just vent. I do share a great deal of personal posts here, but that is still hard for me, and I haven’t gotten into some of the most personal things that I would sometimes like to talk about. This week, I posted about my marriage. Ex-marriage. I debated with myself for a while about this, because there is still a lot bottled up inside me that I would like to get out. But, what purpose would that serve my readers, few as they may be? Finally, I decided to go ahead with it. I’m thankful that I have this space to express myself, and I’m especially thankful that I have a supportive readership. More specifically, I’m thankful that I have supportive friends here.
August 19 – August 25:
Yard sale weekend! Finally, we were able to have the yard sale that got rained out last month. Naturally, it rained again. But it wasn’t quite as bad this time, and we set up a little tent for the tables. So, it wasn’t too terrible. I’m thankful that I made my yard sale dollar goal – actually I made a little more than I wanted to make. We still had tons of stuff left over to donate (three car loads), and I’m thankful that I only brought a few items back into the house. I’m totally thankful to be able to mark this resolution “Complete”!
August 26 – September 1:
I went to the dentist this week, at the VCU School of Dentistry in Richmond. Basically, my teeth are great – except that they all of a sudden just fall apart. So, I have three teeth that are broken off at the gum, but the last time I quoted prices to fix them, it was going to cost me $2000 per tooth. That’s after insurance. $2000!? That’s crazy money. And I can’t afford it. Which is why I ended up with 3 teeth that cracked and eventually disintegrated. Anyway, two different people recommended the dentistry school to me. They’re supposed to do this work for a fraction of the cost. I’m thankful for those recommendations, and certainly thankful to hopefully be on my way to getting these teeth fixed! Also, my boss asked me to work an extra day this week to help her prepare for a meeting, but then she didn’t have that much for me to do. So, I got really caught up on my scheduling job! I have been under a lot of stress in that job for the past two months, so this little breath of fresh air – just that extra day to catch up – is so wonderful. And I’m thankful for it!!
