A rose by any other name would not be a rose.

Sure, it would smell as sweet, but would it still retain it’s significance?

Could the rose have blossomed into the token of love that it is, had it been named something less attractive?  What if the lovely rose had been called a kelminet?  Would the same flower with a different name have been as celebrated?  Of course it’s hard to say, but I wonder.

In some cases, a name helps build the brand.  Sometimes the name almost is the brand: Lincoln, Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., Steve Jobs, Mother Teresa.  In other cases, the name is completely arbitrary.  Apollo 13 conjures up immediate images, even thought the name itself is just one of a series.  The same can be said of 9/11.  There had been and will continue to be September 11’s, but refer to that date in context and no further explanation is necessary to clarify which 9/11 you mean.

What about your name?  Does it say anything about who you are, or is it not important to you at all?

(I was able to ask Jon Acuff this Query, and his answer is included on the next page.  How cool am I is that?  And yes, I’m totally name dropping right now.)

If you could turn back time…

Well, maybe not turn it back completely, but what if you could send your younger self a message?

Would you give yourself advice?  Offer up some needed encouragement?  Tell yourself that everything is going to turn out okay?

Or maybe warn yourself away from some activity, an investment of money or time or self…  Perhaps you’d warn yourself to stay away from somebody?

Click here for the Query, to see what other people would like to say to their twenty-year-old selves.

Wherefore Art Thou, Romeo?

So, the question is, were Romeo and Juliet soulmates?  Or were they just a couple of kids who got in over their heads?

What if their folks had been on speaking terms?  Well, it would have been a shorter story for one thing, but do you think their love would have stood the test of time?

Was it meant to be?  Was it destiny?  Was there only one man in the world for Juliet?  And was she the only one for Romeo?

Is there such a thing as Soulmates?

Who among you resolves?

Believe it or not, I’m doing okay with my New Years resolutions.  Except for that budget thing; that’s not going so well.  But the month’s not over, so there is hope for it, yet.  Actually, this post pertains to resolutions in more ways than one.  It is at once talking about resolutions and fulfilling a resolution.

You may or may not remember, but I resolved to get back on track with my Queries.  That poor little Hope picture has been hanging out on my sidebar since August 28th.  Four months!  Wow, I didn’t even realize it had been that long.  And I didn’t realize how much I’ve missed doing the Queries until I started hounding asking people to answer a new question.  Did you miss the Queries?  I hope so, because they’re back.  I resolved to make it so.

So, in honor of resolutions made and broken all over the world (ambitious, aren’t I?), here’s the new Query:  Do You Make New Years Resolutions?
