Hope Springs Eternal

Does it?

I think for most of us it does.  Hope must be a bottomless well, an emotion that bubbles up from inside us, from a limitless source, from a natural spring.

It must be.  Because if you run out of hope, then you have no reason to go on.  Hope is our link between what is and what could be.

There were times in my youth when I definitely did not want to be in my life.  I would have been extremely happy if I could have crawled into a crevice somewhere, curled into a ball and simply gone to sleep.  But however welcome the sleep would have been, I wanted to eventually wake up.  I wanted a break, not an end.  I never contemplated an end because something really great could happen the next day and I wouldn’t be here to enjoy it.  I believe that is hope.  I didn’t create it within myself, it was just there.  It gave me what I needed to hold on until the next day, or the next, or the one after that.
