Random Thoughts: on dangerous places

I’m not much of a risk taker. I remember a time when I would stick my hand in a hamster cage in a heartbeat. It wasn’t a lack of fear – I always knew I could get bitten and how much it hurt. I’d been hamster bit many a time. It was just that I wanted to hold that hamster more than I feared the hamster’s bite.

I’m not that girl anymore.

I don’t know when she disappeared, when the fear of the bite overtook my excitement and desire to reach into dangerous places.

Are you a risk taker or do you keep on the safe side? Were you always like that?

Is playing it a bit more safe just a normal part of growing up, learning and deciding what risks we are and aren’t willing to take?

As I got older, did I gain more fear, or lose my excitement?

the Infinite Monkey speaks: on vulnerability

Random brilliance from across the blogosphere…

.

I began to realize that, ironically, staying in that comfy chair was making me more vulnerable because it’s living to avoid things rather than learning how to skillfully navigate them. By avoiding, I’d nurture my weakness instead of developing the strength of character that being vulnerable in the world can create when done with awareness and loving-kindness. What I’ve come to understand is that the shadow of vulnerability is frightening, but the light side is where real connection happens, where love happens, where life happens.

the Infinite Monkey speaks: on being human

Random brilliance from across the blogosphere…

.

It doesn’t matter how much people hurt you, how much pain they inflict, how many scars they leave, how many hearts they break. You could hate almost everyone, you could despise a few, they could deserve it, they probably do. But beyond all that, a simple gesture can remind us that human connection remains the most important thing to our existence. No matter how comfortable we are with ourselves, how happy we may be alone, we all crave someone to share that connection with. We all live for each other whether we like it or not. We are only human.
