steadily skipping stones 
An interesting quote. I think most people do the opposite as they age, and tend to go more inward to help themselves and care less about helping the rest of the world. One more reason to admire Susan B. Anthony.
That’s a good point. I have been more and more selfish of my time especially, as I’ve aged. I think my heart and sympathy and wish to help has increased – let’s say my awareness has increased. But my inclination to follow that through with effort has decreased.
If you look at the quote in a bare faced way, it’s saying that the older we get, the more we gain: knowledge, skill, understanding, awareness. And those are things that enable us to better help “the world”. But I took it the same way you did – and I fall pretty short in the helping the world category.
